Sallehin Rakz Interview

Tell us more about yourself..
My real name is Muhammad Sallehin Bin Abdul Rakim. Im 22 this year. Currently Im working part time delivery rider and full time bmx racing.Im in the national team for BMX Racing squad.I have been riding BMX for 11 years and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon or in the distant future.

How did you get started riding bmx/racing?
I was watching ESPN when I was 11 and there was a programme on BMX Racing. I knew about BMX Vert at that point of time but when I saw BMX Racing, I knew that was what I wanted to do in life. I love going fast and something about speed and jumping just shouts at me. Trails is shouting. So after that fateful day, I picked up a Haro Revo and the rest is history.
What do you foresee bmx racing in years to come for Singapore?
The future, from my perspective, is unbelievable. Seeing that YOG is in Singapore, a world class track will be built. This will definitely give the locals a chance to ride on a track that is of pro caliber. With a world class track and an event like YOG, media coverage will be huge!!! Sponsors will come in and more people will show interest. I seriously hope the pool of local racers will grow to finally establish a scene in Singapore.

How has bmx influenced your life since ..

BMX is my lifestyle. It was never a hobby. Thanks Home for that saying. My life always revolved around BMX. Im just fortunate to be in SST to be able to sustain my BMX addiction. Being in SST has really helped me progress with BMX in general be it riding dirt, street or at ECP skatepark. BMX is the biggest contributor to me being who I am today. BMX seriously builds you to be strong physically and mentally. I have so many friends due to BMX. I cant see myself doing anything else besides BMX. It may sound lame but it's true.

Who would you like to thank..

Firstly I'd like to thank my parents for the support. My elder bro, Suandi, for being my ride buddy and partner-in-crime before he left for South Africa. He is responsible for me being the racer that I am today. I'd also like to thank the old farts who trained me when I was still a newbie. Lastly, I would like to thank the gays at SST for all the support. Ariff, Bam, Farhan, Home, Hilmi, Ismail and Shah. SST 4 Life. Trails 4 Life!! Go big or go home. Or you can call Home at +6581357981 and he'll show how to go big. HAHAHAHA. Thanks for taking the time to read this interview. Trails is shouting!!! Kill trendy riders!!!
